I am always on the hunt for quality items at low prices; especially when it comes to clothing, shoes, and home furnishings. Discount shopping isn’t something I necessarily have the time for these days, but I love coming across a good bargain! I found this skirt at the end of last year’s summer sale, and I was immediately drawn the the bright colors and fullness of the fabric. The best part… it was on sale for $4.99!! It’s proven to be one of the best purchases I’ve made; the skirt can be worn in many different ways, by dressing it up or down, depending on the occasion.

My cousin, Chrissy, moved to Southern California last fall to start a new chapter on the West Coast. We love having her out here, she’s like a sister to me and we have so much in common; especially when it comes to shopping! Chrissy lives in Hollywood, but visits us in San Clemente every couple of weeks. We make the usual rounds at our local boutiques in town in hopes of scoring some new fashions. This past weekend she surprised me with a belated “Mimi’s Day” gift…. a fun top that she found at one of her favorite boutiques in LA! Chrissy and I always keep each other in mind when shopping (texting links, photos, websites)… and I am particularly fond of this funky new number she found for me!

Check out my guest post for Breezy Mama on Kid’s Fourth of July Fashion!
Fourth of July Fashion
Tim is scheduled to work on the 4th of July this year… one of the downsides of being a Fireman is that they always have to work on holidays. The kids and I don’t have any big plans, and might just end up driving up to the firehouse for BBQ and fireworks (hint, hint). Even though our fourth will be a quiet one, I can’t help but notice all of the amazing Americana inspired fashions available. Long gone are the days of boring flag tees… Here are a few of my favorite items that really stood out; I especially love the idea of a simple scarf with a distressed flag print.

1. Tarnish Scarf 2. Free People Bag 3. Evocateur Cuff 4. Wildfox Sweater 5. DSquared2 Bikini 6. Topshop Hot Pants 7. Betsey Johnson Earrings 8. Truly Madly Deeply Muscle Tee 9. Delia’s Shorts 10. DSquared2 Halter Top
May Gray
We are in the midst of the dreaded Southern California “May Gray”. The months of May and June bring gloomy weather with an occasional hot day to remind us of what is just around the corner. It is depressing. I had hoped we got away from such weather when we moved from Boston, but being so close to the ocean has it’s price. This time of year I usually look forward to wearing vibrant prints and light weight fabrics, but those will have to wait until our much needed trip to Palm Springs next week. Instead, I found this beautiful new blazer that is the perfect layering piece, and will carry well into the fall/holiday season. I love the cropped and contoured fit with a shorter hem in the back. It’s the attention to detail which really makes Helmut Lang stand out from the rest.

The warm weather is finally upon us! After what has seemed like weeks of cold weather, we are finally in the clear and enjoying the beautiful climate. I am in the process of refurbishing my collection of shorts, and found this printed pair at one of my favorite discount retailers, Nordstrom Rack! The Rack is a great source for finding on-trend items that are currently available at full retail prices. It’s best to go in with an open mind, and in the middle of the week…working from home has its advantages! You never know what you can score there… I’ve even seen Louboutins, two sizes too small, though! Ah, the adventures of discount shopping!!
