My cousin, Chrissy, moved to Southern California last fall to start a new chapter on the West Coast. We love having her out here, she’s like a sister to me and we have so much in common; especially when it comes to shopping! Chrissy lives in Hollywood, but visits us in San Clemente every couple of weeks. We make the usual rounds at our local boutiques in town in hopes of scoring some new fashions. This past weekend she surprised me with a belated “Mimi’s Day” gift…. a fun top that she found at one of her favorite boutiques in LA! Chrissy and I always keep each other in mind when shopping (texting links, photos, websites)… and I am particularly fond of this funky new number she found for me!

One the many things I love about Southern California is that when it comes to fashion: anything goes! Although we live in suburbia, there is still so much diversity and we have our very own fashion industry thriving in Orange County. People are accepting and support all forms of creativity, and I feel fortunate and happy to raise our kids in such a place. The warm weather is finally upon us! After what has seemed like weeks of cold weather, we are finally in the clear and enjoying the beautiful climate. I am in the process of refurbishing my collection of shorts, and found this printed pair at one of my favorite discount retailers, Nordstrom Rack! The Rack is a great source for finding on-trend items that are currently available at full retail prices. It’s best to go in with an open mind, and in the middle of the week…working from home has its advantages! You never know what you can score there… I’ve even seen Louboutins, two sizes too small, though! Ah, the adventures of discount shopping!!

While I would love to be able to dress up in a fancy new ensemble everyday, it’s simply not practical for my lifestyle (insert laugh here). “Practical” has never really stopped me from wearing anything in the past, but I’m a mom now. Anyway, for the days that I am not sporting my Lululemon gear, I like to find a nice slinky tee and add some interest with accessories. The cold weather we have been having lately gave me the green light for a mustard tee, but I kept it current with some bright orange lipstick, a staple of mine!
