Hot Spell

Fall is nearly upon us and it has been unusually hot for this time of year. Last week, it was close to 100 degrees for a couple of days and we were forced to live inside enjoying the comfort of A/C. The fall collections, magazines, and stores have been such a tease that I can’t help but wish for rain! Eventually I’ll back into leggings, sweaters and jackets… but for now, I’ll be sticking to my favorite classic cut-offs and light-weight fabrics.

Summer Bugs

Our household was rocked this past week with a nasty summer stomach bug… making its inevitable pass through most of us. I thought stomach bugs only occurred in the winter!?! Now that everyone is starting to get better, we have been diligently working away on Adella and Nolan’s new bedroom design. Eventually they will share a room, and it’s been a challenge finding gender neutral pieces that suit both of their personalities. Adella is as girly as they come, and wants EVERYTHING pink! On the other hand, Nolan is all boy (minus the occasional dress-up and make-up sessions that Adella puts him through) and he likes to play rough with his trucks and trains. But, I think we’ve come up with a good plan for the room… they’re already excited about the bunk beds!
We have the habit of starting multiple projects at a time; so, we decided to take some time away from all the craziness to enjoy an early evening out. Sometimes stepping back from a big project and putting it aside for a night helps us regenerate. It also gives me an opportunity to pull something fun from my closet!

Desert Florals

In the past, I’ve admitted to my love for resort wear: specifically cover-ups. When I came across this kaftan at Luna Boutique, I thought it would work nicely as a cover-up and make a lovely addition to my collection. It made for a perfect “throw & go” piece during our stay at the Parker, and I think it will work well in the fall, too.

Mixing it Up

While we would all LOVE to sport the finest designer fashions, most of us simply can’t afford the hefty price tags that go along with them. Thankfully, in this day, there are many budget-friendly boutiques and retailers that offer on-trend items at low prices. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge advocate for investing in basic pieces that are classic and will last in one’s wardrobe for years. However, when it comes to seasonal trend items, I seek out my local boutiques that won’t break the bank!

I have been on the hunt for a loose knit sweater that is light weight and drapey for the summer. But, I didn’t want to spend much… considering how beat up my clothes get these days (Nolan will get caught up in every hole). Last week, I happened to pop into one of those “budget-friendly” retailers located next to my gym, and I found exactly what I was looking for! The best part, it only coast $24… Nolan can have at it! I love to share my inexpensive finds with friends & clients, but the key is mixing it up with some of those basic investment pieces.
