I’m Back!

I decided to take a bit of a hiatus from blogging to focus my time and energy on the kids and the many events/activities that take place over the holidays. The past two months flew by and they were jam-packed with parties, shows, and gatherings with friends. I also needed a bit of down time because of this:

Baby “Sparkle Barbie” (Adella’s pick) is due to join us around May 17th 2013, and I am just over six months pregnant! We are thrilled to have a third baby join our crew, and the kids are beyond excited. I’ll be incorporating some “baby” posts in addition to what I usually write about, but I promise it won’t be all pregnancy related ;o).

2012 Family Photo Session

Every year, we have a professional photographer come out to capture photos of the family, and it has been well worth the investment. I have worked with many photographers (mostly in fashion) and have a pretty good idea of what  it takes to be considered truly GREAT. Our photographer, Ginette Sundin, has been photographing our family for 3 years now, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the results of each session. Not only are her technical skills spot-on, but her composition and creativity are really what makes her stand out!  Her style is unique, and she likes to capture real-life images as opposed to those typical arranged family photos. Plus, she is amazing with our kids; they feel very comfortable with her and she has clever ways about encouraging their natural fun behavior.

Ginette has also become a friend over the years. We have similar tastes in art and decor, and we both share a love for gardening. Her gardening skills have far surpassed ours, and we are treated with fresh produce and EGGS after each session!!

For this particular session we decided to take the kids to the beach and have a classic family photography session… minus the blue jeans, white shirts, and hand holding (well, we might have slipped one of those in). We couldn’t possibly go to the beach without splashing around in the water, our kids are little fish; so I mentioned to Ginette that I wanted to try something a little different and here are the results:

To view more photos from our session, you can visit Ginette at her blog, or click here for part 1, and here for part 2. Thank you Ginette, for another wonderful session and for braving the surf! We had a blast hanging out and getting wet!

Nolan’s Hair

I begrudgingly, and yet spontaneously agreed, to allow Nolan his first haircut. Tim had been pushing for this to happen for a long time now, but I preferred his shaggy look. Our intentions were to simply run into the grocery store to pick up dinner, when Tim suggested that we pop into the barbershop next door “just to check it out”. At that point we were sucked in and there was no backing out. It all happened so quickly; they put Nolan in a booster, turned on some cartoons, and started buzzing away. And so started the waterworks. Nolan was traumatized, as was I…especially when the barber proceeded to put butch wax in his hair and gave him a side part. This will never happen again.

Tim’s 35ish Birthday

Tim is getting old! Aye. For his 35th birthday this year, I surprised him with an adventure on horseback. He had no idea what was coming to him. Everyone knows my love for horses, and riding them. So I thought it would be a GREAT idea to try and get Tim to fall in love with them, that way when the kids are all in school, and I start bugging him about leasing/purchasing a horse, he would understand that love and agree to it! All part of a master plan. I did a lot of research to find a place that rents out trail horses, has good views, and let’s you do pretty much whatever you want on the horse (within reason, of course). I wanted Tim to feel the thrill of cantering, and most rental places are strict about walking only. So I found “Circle K Stables” in Burbank. We took a 2 hour trail ride up Mt. Hollywood to see the Hollywood sign. The views were amazing. We got a beautiful day and could see for miles and miles. It was just the two of us and a guide, she was great and willing to let us trot and canter as much as we wanted. Our horses were happy and well cared for, and very understanding of my English commands and Tim’s newness to it all ;o). After dismounting we cowboy walked back to the car and headed to Philippes for lunch. We were both sore for at least a week. I can’t wait to go back…. Tim on the other hand…. or should I say “Cowboy Jim”.
