I have been a big fan of Room Service Store for a long time now, and when their pillows popped up for sale on One Kings Lane I jumped on them! We were planning on purchasing new pillows for a while now, but they get expensive and we have kids… I would lose my mind if $100+ pillow got destroyed, but $38 wouldn’t be quite as devastating. The pillows don’t have down inserts, but I will replace when the time comes. I love mixing up the prints, and they really brighten up our family room. You can view their entire collection of throw pillows in addition to fabulous furniture pieces at http://www.roomservicestore.com.
My collection of denim is slim to none these days. Ever since having kids, I haven’t enjoyed squeezing myself into constricting jeans; so I typically stick with leggings (thank god they have stayed around for so long). That was the case until I was introduced to Reuse Jeans at an event a couple of weeks back. I was immediately drawn to the bright colors, and after being encouraged to try them on I fell in love. The fit is amazing, and I just love the soft hand of the fabric.
I had an opportunity to chat with one of their reps, and I learned that Reuse Jeans are eco-friendly and made of 80% recycled denim! I have a background in denim design and had no idea how much waste production creates in addition to the impact it’s had on our environment. At Reuse they take pre-consumer waste as it’s raw material and run it through a shredding machine, which is then be spun into yarn. Not only can you sport fun colored skinnies with an excellent fit, but you can also reduce your carbon footprint while doing so!
Last weekend I had the opportunity to attend the Orange County Fashion Showcase benefiting Working Wardrobes, a non-profit organization based in Costa Mesa, CA. The evening included six fashion presentations, musical entertainment, and an after party. The theme for Saturday evening was contemporary fashion and “LEAF Rocks Eco Fashion” – Earth Day Celebration.
I was really excited to see the Hodges Collection by Deanna Hodges. In addition to her fashion line, Hodges is also the founder of: Orange County Fashion Trade Association, a 501c3 organization, Orange County Fashion Showcase and the Fashion Insiders group. Her line consists of beautifully draped knits as well as asymmetrical styling, which I LOVE! She has everything from cocktail dresses to loungewear, and what I appreciate most about the line is that it is actually wearable. I can see myself wearing the entire collection, dressing it up or down depending on the day. It’s the perfect “California Modern” collection.
I managed to snap a few photos back stage before the shows, and I was loving the hair and make-up by Toni & Guy. Here are a few behind the scenes pictures, as well as my favorite looks from the Hodges Collection.
My favorite holiday is just a few weeks away, but I was fortunate enough to be invited to The Spa at Island Hotel in Newport Beach for an early “Mother’s Spa Day”. Upon my arrival, I was ushered into the beautiful sanctuary where I changed into a plush robe and began enjoying the amenities. I decided to start with the eucalyptus steam room, where I placed refreshingly cool cucumber slices on my tired eyes and a chilled towel on my face. I was in heaven, and I loved that it felt as though it was my own personal spa. Fifteen minutes later I realized my scheduled appointment was drawing near, so I headed for the quiet room where I enjoyed some citrus water and fruit before my treatment. After some lounging in a plush chaise, my therapist Maryann escorted me to a treatment room for a 90 minute Lomi Lomi massage.
When Maryann opened the door to the treatment room, I got a little embarrassingly emotional. The room was filled with aromatic tropical scents and gentle Hawaiian music playing… it brought me back to our wedding day in Hawaii, which was also the last time that I enjoyed a Lomi Lomi massage. It’s amazing how scents and music can spark so many wonderful memories! For those of you who are not familiar with Lomi Lomi, it is a spiritual healing massage. It’s passed down from generation to generation with the intention of balancing heart, mind, body and soul. The therapists techniques are rhythmic, using the forearms in long, connected, embracing strokes.
After my treatment was complete, I was in a state of utter relaxation and was guided back into the quiet room to enjoy tranquility tea and frozen grapes. This was truly a one-of-a-kind experience, and I felt an overall sense of well-being and deep relaxation. Everything a mother wants, needs, and enjoys. So if you are scrambling to plan a unique Mother’s Day experience for the moms in your life, look no further than The Spa at Island Hotel. As much as we love and adore the handmade cards, I think I can speak for most mothers in that we would really appreciate a peaceful day at The Spa in addition to those adorable cards!
In addition to the many treatments available at The Spa: The Island Hotel is also offering a special Mother’s Day Brunch at Palm Terrace Restaurant where you can enjoy a scrumptious patio buffet, along with paired tasting cocktail options and musical entertainment. They will be pairing everything from sushi and sake, to breakfast quesadillas and skinny margaritas (my favorite). I can’t think of a better way to spend Mother’s Day!
Thank you to The Spa at Island Hotel for a memorable and perfectly relaxing experience! To learn more about The Spa at Island Hotel, you can visit their website www.theislandhotel.com or call 866 554 4620.
I was secretly hoping this day would never come, but Adella is getting very particular about what she wears. It needs to be a dress, but not any dress, a “twirly” one. Getting her in anything that doesn’t flow with a little spin has been challenging. We have been rotating between a few different dresses every week and it’s getting exhausting. However, this past week while dressing her for school, I managed to get her into a pair of shorts… and she discovered the pockets! Ah the magic of pockets! There were no arguments once those magic pockets were found.
